This exhibit highlights the world’s largest physical graphic identity created for Malmö Festival, Scandinavia’s largest city festival held annually in Malmö, Sweden. Referred to locally as Malmöfestivalen this renowned event transforms the city into a grand celebration over eight days, filled with expectations, food, activities, amazing artists and all complemented by the city’s welcoming atmosphere. As Sweden’s oldest city festival marked its 30th anniversary in 2014.
To celebrate this significant milestone, a record-breaking physical graphic identity was designed – an enormous art installation measuring 13 x 8 meters. This interactive piece invited visitors to explore and interact with its multi-level typography, which included letters, symbols, and objects. The creation of this monumental artwork required 10,000 nails, 175 liters of paint, 280 plywood sheets, and the efforts of 14 workers over 900 hours. SNASK, known for their ambitious projects, spearheaded this impressive endeavor.
“Your are more safe when you’re on your knees” says Freddie. To capture the installation a sky lift was used to photograph it from a height of 30 meters, providing a stunning perspective.
The 2014 graphic identity for Malmöfestivalen received widespread recognition, featured in major publications like AdWeek, Creative Review, and HOW Design. The positive feedback from both festival attendees and the global creative community far surpassed expectations, establishing the installation as a remarkable typographic spectacle that captivated audiences around the world.
