In a heartwarming collaboration driven by creativity and social impact, SNASK joined forces with the non-profit organization Turning Tables to transform a dream into reality – a dream that would bring the power of music to underserved youth across Sweden. (Sounds like “The Sound of Music – Bus Tour” to us.)
Turning Tables, founded by Danish DJ Martin Jakobsen, had long been a beacon of hope for marginalized young people, offering them a platform to express themselves through music and film. What began as a small initiative, teaching refugee children in New York how to DJ, quickly evolved into a global movement, attracting creative minds such as Anna Schori and Mark Ephraim, who helped expand the project to Europe.
The core mission of Turning Tables is to build creative spaces where disadvantaged youth can break free from their challenging circumstances and express themselves artistically. Through music and film, the organization fosters a sense of community, encouraging young people to find their voice and connect with others. Their vision is to create a network of vibrant and safe neighborhoods across Sweden, where young people are given the tools to realize their potential. Over time, the organization had managed to convert a container into a fully equipped music studio. The idea was to take this mobile studio on a tour across Sweden. However, the container quickly proved to be an obstacle. While it was perfect as a studio, its size and weight made the transportation impractical and expensive. The team found themselves facing a roadblock – how could they continue their mission without the means to travel?
Understanding the importance of Turning Tables work, SNASK stepped in to help with a more practical solution. Instead of trying to move the heavy container they purchased an old caravan which would serve as the foundation for a new mobile music studio. The goal was not just to create a functional space but to craft something unique, inspiring and fun.
With the help of expert craftsman Stellan Von Reybekiel they embarked on a complete overhaul of the caravan. The entire interior was stripped down to its core, with moldy and damaged materials removed and the wooden framework completely rebuilt. A new floor was installed, setting the stage for a fresh and creative design. But the team didn’t stop at functionality. They wanted the caravan to be more than just a mobile studio – it had to make a statement. To achieve this, they lined the interior with pink fur. In SNASK’s own words, “Pink fur is hotter than hot”. While this choice added a playful and cozy aesthetic, it also served a practical purpose, helping to absorb sound and improve the acoustics inside the studio.
In the end, the collaboration between SNASK and Turning Tables proved to be more than just a design project – it was a testament to the belief that art and music have the power to change lives. The Caravan Music Studio stands as a mobile embodiment of that belief, traveling through Sweden to reach young people who need it most, providing them with the tools, space and inspiration to express themselves, connect with others, and transform their futures.
